North of Bolzano, on the striking slopes of St. Magdalena, lies the cradle of our work. These sites have been renowned for their extraordinary quality for centuries. The structure of the vineyards is demanding: steep, narrow, and manageable only through arduous hand-labor. But the effort is rewarded. Here, wines are born with a depth and strength of character that have made St. Magdalena one of the most precious wine-growing regions in South Tyrol.

Legacy of the Ice Age
The soils surrounding the Untermoserhof are a gift of geological history. Shaped by the massive forces of the Ice Age, our vines today find a foundation of weathered porphyry, glacial moraine, and river gravel. In these loamy-sandy and mineral-rich layers, the vines root deeply to draw their substance. The result is grapes of crystalline clarity that transport the mineral skeleton of the Alps directly into the glass.

The microclimate in St. Magdalena is a decisive factor in the vitality of our wines. While the Bolzano basin stores the day's warmth, the gentle slopes ensure constant air circulation. At night, the cool descending winds from the surrounding mountains keep the aromas fresh and lend the wine an invigorating acidity. This climatic brilliance gives our wines their proverbial elegance.

The terroir of the Untermoserhof cannot be captured in simple numbers—it is a living mosaic of small-scale diversity. While on the steep slopes of St. Magdalena, a few meters in elevation or a slight shift in incline can determine the influence of wind and sun, our Lagrein finds its distinct expression in the striking warmth of the valley floor in Rentsch. This picture is completed by our vineyards in Kaltern, which contribute an alpine freshness, ranging from the proximity of the lake to the higher elevations south of the village. In the cellar, our highest ambition is to bring these fine nuances of every single plot into the glass, pure and unadulterated—as a precise reflection of a specific moment and place.
